Yesterday and last night turned out to be quite the "ride" for Lee. While we'd originally been told that she would have to remain flat for 24 hours, Dr. B. rolled in about 2 pm in his typical "brisk and spirited" fashion and had one hand on the bed-elevate button while he was wadding up the restrictions sign and throwing it at me with the other. Lee is pretty certain he now has claw marks on his wrist to go with the scar on his head that he received when he ran into some of her
hardware and required stitches 13 years ago.
While his approach is "direct" to say the least, he knows that getting her moving is critical to moving down the path to healing. She went from lying flat to sitting to standing to marching in place to walking the hallway in what seemed like seconds to us and I'm sure felt like it lasted hours for Lee. She's now been on 3 walks around the unit and has been up in the chair for several hours (I added another photo of our walk to the album). While that is certainly good news, it has come with significant increases in her pain. She didn't sleep more than a few minutes last night (of course in typical Lee fashion, she said that gave her time to chat with the lady in the bed next door about Jesus) but I am thankful to report that they adjusted some of her pain medicine regimen and finally got her comfortable (and tired) enough that she is napping as I type. Her bladder function has come back, albeit slowly, so that is certainly a praise.
Today is all about continuing to try and build her strength and stamina balanced with managing her pain in a reasonable fashion. She has already turned her attention to timing out her proposed exit strategy, but we'll take that a day at a time. Thanks in advance for your prayers that she continues to get some rest, pain control, and renewed strength. Love you all...
Steve

Lee is so much on my mind and I marvel that she can function with constant pain..of course I am judging by my own abilities not an informed medical opinion. At any rate I am praying for relief and healing and for the surrounding family to experience some relief from stress also.

This made me think of the time I took her to the hospital in Boston when she was sick and they wouldn't release her until she went to the bathroom. The nurses and I were outside the bathroom singing all the rain/water songs we could think of. Much love to you guys.
