Update from Today’s Appointment
May 28, 2009, 6:17 AM
This is Steve again with a brief update following Lee’s appointment with her PCP today for which we had asked your prayers. I truly wish I had some great new insights or direction based on the appointment but we quite honestly find ourselves more frustrated after the visit than before we arrived. While her doctor expressed an understanding of our frustrations with the recent breakdown in communication and derailment of what we thought was Lee’s treatment plan, she did not come through with the course corrections that we were hoping for. She has been back in contact with Lee’s pain management doctor and they seem to be convincing each other that the path of simply reducing her current medicine regimen and just waiting to “see what happens” without any solid alternatives to manage the debilitating headaches that have plagued her since our 2003 car accident.
As you can imagine, this lack of clear direction continues to weigh on Lee’s spirits. While we continue to rest in God’s sovereignty over the situation, we are struggling to know what our roles should be in trying to force the issues and go in a different direction. We are contemplating whether or not to attempt to gain a second opinion or seek a new pain management group that specializes more in head injury conditions like Lee’s. The challenge with any of these options is that the June 17th deadline with our insurance company for covering Lee’s current medications is closing in rapidly. Without a successful appeal to reverse their declination of coverage, she will be forced to go without the treatment that has given her the best relief of her headaches for the past several years and to deal with the miserable side effects of withdrawals that come rapidly from cessation of these types of medicines.
So, please pray for wisdom on how we should proceed and for Lee’s doctors to have empathetic spirits for her situation and to vigorously advocate on her behalf. Also, please use the “invite a friend” link on the page to share these prayer requests with anyone else that you believe would intercede on Lee’s behalf. Again, we cannot thank you enough for your continued love, support, and continuous prayers.

Beverly Walton May 28, 2009, 12:43 PM Dear Lee and Steve, I am a friend of Royce who is very special to me. We have worked together in Disaster Relief for several years. I have hesitated to leave a message because you do not know me, but I just want to let you know that you both have been in my prayers for a long time as Royce has shared your situation with me on many occasions. It is good to know how to pray more specifically now and I surely will be doing just that.
